Berhampore Girl's College
Berhampore Girls' College was established in 1946. It is the first government sponsored college in the state of West Bengal. The institution was founded by Smt. Amiya Rao, an eminent scholar and wife of the then District Collector Sri B.G.Rao, as a seat for the advancement of women’s education and uplift in this predominantly agricultural and backward belt of the state. Berhampore Girls’ College, established in 1946 by the Oxford Scholar Mrs. Amiya Rao and enriched by the legendary figure Smt. Priti Gupta, has set the Thames on fire to become the hallmark of
spreading education among women of this backward District. Their joint venture for establishing this college and their tremendous effort along with the effort of Governing Body, other Principals, dedicated Teachers, Non-Teaching Staff and Well-wishers of this college, have made this college the first Government sponsored college in West Bengal and the first NAAC accredited in Murshidabad District. This college, affiliated by the University of Kalyani and enlisted by UGC covering under 2f and 12B of UGC Act, 1956, tries its level best to inspire the students to strike the spark of truth.
The glorious past of this college will always help us to engage ourselves in finding out the way through which we can flourish this college into a blessed paradise of education and knowledge. I hope that our teachers will win laurels to guide the students to reach their goal as their friends and philosophers.
